What are we worth...and the daily quote

From Psalm 49: 7-12

Those who trust in their wealth and boast of their abundant riches? One cannot redeem oneself, pay to God a ransom. Too high the price to redeem a life; one would never have enough to stay alive forever and never see the pit. Anyone can see that the wisest die, the fool and the senseless pass away too, and must leave their wealth to others. Tombs are their homes forever, their dwellings through all generations, though they gave their names to their lands.

I refuse to look at this passage as a damnation of those that put the accumulation of material wealth before all else in life. Instead, I see it as an affirmation of how much we are worth as individuals. Nothing - no amount of gold, silver, jewels, or relics - could ever equal the worth of our life. We are that precious. We are that loved.

No amount of dollars or pouds, yen or rubles, will ever equal what we are worth. We are sacred. Our bodies and lives are unique and irreplaceable. We are original works of art. We ought to love one another in that way, with that passion. Love has no limits and it is the only currency that holds everlasting value.

What is the worth of one person? Endless, unconditional love - and that cannot be bought.

Quote of the day, from Quote A Day:

If we sit down now we may get run over later.

Franklin D. Roosevelt
